StatsCan is Hiring: 32,000 Well-Paid Jobs Across Canada
Statistics Canada is gearing up for the 2026 Census of Population, and they're looking for thousands of Canadians to join their team. The national statistical agency needs nearly 32,000 people to become census enumerators and crew leaders across the country, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to Canada's data landscape.
The upcoming census, set to begin in May 2026, aims to create a comprehensive statistical portrait of Canada's diverse population and the places we call home. André Loranger, Chief Statistician of Canada, emphasizes the importance of this endeavor, stating, 'Every five years, the Census of Population and the Census of Agriculture capture the most complete and accurate portrait of Canada, providing invaluable insights about our country.'
But here's where it gets interesting: the census isn't just about numbers. It's about understanding the people and places that make Canada unique. The data collected will be used by governments, businesses, and organizations to plan services that support public transportation, employment, healthcare, schools, and more. It's a vital tool for shaping the future of our communities.
The census enumerators and crew leaders will play a crucial role in this process. Enumerators will work part-time, with schedules that include evenings and weekends, collecting questionnaires from households, following up with respondents, and shipping completed questionnaires. They'll be paid $25.87 per hour plus authorized expenses like mileage and parking.
Crew leaders, on the other hand, will be paid $31.23 per hour to train, lead, and supervise a team. These roles require full-time availability, including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. In select Northern and remote communities, the pay rate is higher, at $35.79 per hour for non-supervisors and $37.79 per hour for supervisors, with authorized expenses covered.
To be considered for a StatsCan job, applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or possess a valid work permit. They should be at least 18 years old, live in Canada, and have a Canadian home address. The hiring process will begin on Tuesday, January 6, with a focus on select northern and remote communities, followed by a broader hiring across Canada.
