A tragic story has unfolded, leaving a Costa Rican family devastated and seeking justice. The recent passing of Randall Alberto Gamboa Esquivel, a 52-year-old man, has sparked a wave of allegations and a call for accountability.
Randall's journey began when he ventured to the United States in search of work, a common dream shared by many. However, his path took a dark turn when he was arrested by US immigration authorities in February. What followed was a series of events that left his family confused and distraught.
The Controversial Turn of Events
Randall was initially detained at a facility in Texas, but his family's daily calls went unanswered in June, raising concerns. It was only later that they received a vague explanation about a health issue.
"Someone at the detention center said he had a health issue, but they didn't provide any further details," shared Greidy Mata, Randall's sister.

The official statement from Tricia McLaughlin, an assistant secretary for homeland security, defended the medical treatment Randall received, claiming it was better than many immigrants had experienced. But here's where it gets controversial: Randall's family described finding him in August, bedridden and in a vegetative state, after being scammed by attorneys.
The Fight for Answers
An air ambulance, arranged by ICE, transported Randall back to Costa Rica on September 3rd. He was admitted to a hospital in his hometown, Pérez Zeledón, but sadly, he passed away on October 26th.
Randall's family is now determined to uncover the truth. They are putting pressure on the Costa Rican government to demand answers from the US authorities. However, they feel the Costa Rican government is not doing enough.
"The medical treatment Randall received in the US was, in my opinion, terrible," said Adriana Ureña, Randall's significant other.
Even Óscar Arias, Costa Rica's former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has voiced his support for the family. He emphasized that Randall entered the US illegally but was in perfect physical health. Arias condemned the silence of both countries and demanded that Randall's family deserves to know what happened while he was in US custody.
Immigration Policies Under Scrutiny
The Trump administration, which has prioritized deporting as many people as possible, initially claimed its immigration crackdown would target violent criminals. However, government data revealed a different story, showing that immigrants with no criminal record made up the largest group in ICE detention.
McLaughlin's statement highlighted Randall's previous convictions for driving a commercial vehicle without a license and fraud, but these are not considered violent offenses. Additionally, President Trump himself faced criminal convictions for falsifying business records and civil fraud.
"If you break the law, you face the consequences," McLaughlin's statement asserted.
But the question remains: Was Randall's treatment fair, given his non-violent offenses?
Greidy Mata, speaking outside Randall's funeral, emphasized, "Randall was not a delinquent, he was loved, and he died surrounded by those who cared for him."
This story raises important questions about immigration policies, medical care, and the treatment of individuals in custody. What are your thoughts on this tragic incident? Feel free to share your opinions and engage in a respectful discussion in the comments.
